Information

Hau Kola! (Hello Friend!)

The Mascoutin Society of Chicagoland is sponsoring a workshop designed to teach both basic and intermediate craft skills used in outfit construction and dance. These workshops will provide participants the fundamentals to make outfit parts, dance at Native American Pow-wows, and some requirements for Indian Lore Merit Badge.

Workshops will feature such seminars as: quillwork, heddle loom beading, lazy stitch, leather bags, bustle construction, floral beadwork, rosettes, roach construction, hand ornaments, shawl construction, outfit construction, dance, and etiquette as it pertains to dance, drum, and arena.

Registration fee will be $40 per person if paid by April 12th and $45 per person will be due after that date. This fee covers the costs of workshops, meals, camping, and craft supplies. Additional craft supplies will be available for purchase. You will need to furnish your own camping gear, and personal items. We also require proof of permission slips, tour permits, and medical information on youth in case of an emergency. These are standards required by BSA/GSUSA. Leaders will please keep this information with them.

In addition to the Saturday workshops we will feature an informal evening pow-wow and dance competition Saturday evening. Competition is for both boys and girls in outfit - ages 10 thru 20 years of age. There will also be an adult competition ages 21 and up. A special dance will take place so our younger dancers so can show their stuff. We require that all who wish to compete in dance competition also participate in morning workshops! You will find dance competition rules on our web site under events/workshop.

Fun and fellowship are important ingredients for a great weekend. Please remember that we are all volunteers and if you have a spare moment and wish to lend a hand it will be greatly appreciated by the committee. We look forward to your participation at our event.
